More Than 35 Websites Where You Can Post Stories for Feedback

Updates: Sept. 23, 2016 and Oct. 18, 2013. Original post: Oct. 15, 2010.

Six years ago, I published a list of 15 websites where you can post stories for feedback. It was the most popular page on my website with nearly 40,000 views. For the post's three-year anniversary, I updated it on Oct. 18, 2013, and increased the list to more than 25 sites. The post now has more than 235,000 views, so it's time to do another update. I removed listings of sites shut down, updated quotes from sites, and increased the list to include more than 35 sites where you can upload original fiction and nonfiction short stories, chapters and books. Many of the websites added to the list were suggested by readers.

(Disclaimer: Vic's Lab, LLC, which operates VicsLab.com, is the publisher of my Vecto light novels, Vecto: Vengeance and Vecto: Voyage. You can visit my page at vicslab.com/members/reidkemper. I also use Wattpad.com.)

Below is the updated post with a list of more than 35 sites where you can submit writings for an online community to read. Feel free to share links to this article to help your fellow writers.

More Than 35 Websites Where You Can Post Stories for Feedback

Writers need feedback, and many beginning writers opt to post their stories on websites where others can rate them and comment on them. Of course, writers should be careful when posting stories online. Many publishers consider anything posted online to be published and may not accept those works. However, other publishers are now seeking out self-published works that have a strong following.

If you don't write, there are plenty of fiction to read on these sites, including science fiction. You may have to filter through some badly written manuscripts, though, to find a gem.

Ideally, local writing groups are good sources of feedback, but for those who want to share their original writings with the world or members-only online communities, here is a list of more than 35 websites where you can post stories (in alphabetical order with a quote from each website):

  14. Hi Friends, Dec 21, 2012 is the most anticipated day in the history. We all knew about the 2012 Myth but it is still in debate whether it is a myth or a real fact. I have written a fictional story, "THE INVERSE" based on the prophecies of 2012 apocalypse. Indeed, many movies have been taken based on these prophecies. But, the theme of this story would be much more different from those movies. Please click on the below link to visit the blog and kindly read the story. Don't let it pass by,

You can publish your writings by using the web application Bookonlive. http://www.bookonlive.com

More than simple narrations, you can choose to publish living texts.
As each new chapter is published, your subscribers receive a notification by e-mail.

In that way, they can follow the development of your narrations as they evolve and through the forum of your livebook, share your impressions with your readers.

Earn money by selling access to your texts, choose the price and the currency, get the payment of your committees on your Paypal account.

Increase the impact of your writings by customizing the appearance of your livebook and by styling the characters.

With Bookonlive the authors are the exclusive owners of any text published. http://www.bookonlive.com

    1. I thought about posting my Vecto story on other sites, as well. I may do that since it makes it available for more people to read. But it may take more effort to check each site and try to gain readers by building relationships. People can discover the work through keyword searches without extra effort on the author's part, but I'm not sure how often works are discovered that way.

  45. so to be sure that i understand this correctly, there are no rules on 'copy rights' ? Just because there is a 'no copy-paste' feature, does not stop a person from taking credit elsewhere?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The "no-copy paste" feature only prevents people from highlighting text and copying it (this prevents copyright infringement). There may be hackers who may know how to circumvent that, but they'd have to go through extra work. Anything original you write is automatically copyrighted, according to U.S. law. If someone is stupid enough to try to take credit for your work, as long as you have proof that you created it (the date you posted it online is proof), you have legal protection.

  63. You should also check out typotic.com!

The only community where you get paid every time someone reads something you published.

BTW, not being able to copy paste from Wattpad is not true... Right click view source and copy everything you want!
